Spelunking and swimming does not always come in one package. But in Buenavista, located at Hikdop Island, the cave and the beach come together for the pleasure of everyone who enjoyed these types of getaways.
Buenavista Cave can be reached by about 20-minutes boat ride from Surigao City. It is facing the city boulevard which is the usual docking place for those who may wish to contract a motorized boat.
Approaching on the island, the beach will greet the visitors a brilliant welcome with its powdery white sand.
The emerald waters are very enticing, urging everyone to plunge into the water.
While the beach seems a catch, caving is usually the primary purpose of going there. So no matter how enticing it is, swimming can be delayed a little later after the sweaty adventure of exploring the cave. A very good idea to wash off the dirts and the sticky sweats after caving.
Buenavista Cave has a huge opening with ceilings adorned with dried and blackened stalactites. And as expected striking a pose is the next best thing to do even before going inside the cave. That is specifically for Pinoys who are very much fond of collecting memories through photographs.
While taking too much time for photo ops is tolerable, vandalism is totally not cool. Vandalism, also known as graffiti, is an art. But only if done in the right places designated for that purpose. And the walls of the caves are definitely not part of them. For everyone's information, as also expressed by environmentalists, etchings and markings on the cave walls take time to heal and remove. And some lasts forever. Now you dont want your future sons and daughters saw the smut you left, right?
The best way to leave a mark is to experience the place and then store that memory in your heart. Look at how beautiful these works of nature..

Meanwhile, in no camera tricks, i don't know what happened with this photo. I just thought I'm turning into a lobo (wolf). Kewl! :D

inggit nmn ako uuy
@doc rio.. togoink! papa p talaga? papi nalang. madami na pera, matinik pa. haha.
doc, caving 101 tayo. stalaCtite po pag ceiling. take note of the C. C=ceiling. stalaGmites po pag yung nasa ground. G=ground. hehe
great caves. dapat talaga ma preserve yan.
@badz.. medyo we have few places here named buenavista. some in the mainland, some in the islands. i guess, its one of the most overused name for a place. hehe.
this buenavista i am referring is located in hikdop island which is visible from the mainland. very near.
I think caving would be one of the last things I would do. Next to scuba diving. I am afraid of the idea that I might suffocate and nobody will even know. Maybe it's my phobia. Nasa harap palang ako ng kweba nahirapan nako huminga....
@lawstude.. hahaha! ok nga yun eh.. ita-touch kita para maging lobo ka rin. parang spread the power. haha.
@salingpusa.. sabi nila fear is only in the mind, sort of inhibitions. so kaya mo yan. sumama sama ka sakin at tatanggalin natin yang phobia na yan. hehe.
Hey, you forgot to tell us where is Hikdop Island. The white sand looks so inviting, haha.. We've got too many of those in Hawaii! Your island hopping sure was fun I can tell.
wow! i've read some of the articles posted. nice blog you're keeping here!
Magnificent stalactites and stalagmites! Loves it! I visited Butuan City last December and never had the chance to go to Siargao/Surigao. Malayo daw kasi.
I wanna go there in Surigao. But probably after the military operations against the MILF stops na lang.
wah sayang now ko lang nakita to... we went to siargao pero hindi namin napuntahan yung ibang mga place na pinost mo in your siargao trip. naked beach was sooo beautiful! pati yung daku island and yung isa pa..
i always go to butuan kasi taga doon bf ko tapos lagi silang nag bibike going to surigao so sabi ko next time ikot kami doon and i-suggest ko na puntahan namin yung mga places na nakalagay sa blog mo :)
linis ng tubig! astig! makakapunta din ako dyan.
Hahaha.....you should get a shot of you sitting on that "throne" =) Then you'll look like some wise sage...
I really enjoy the tour. I have an award for you. Please get the badge at my blog.
@bridge.. sorry, i forgot. hehe.
hikdop island, is part of the surigao city geopolitical jurisdiction. it is an island facing the city of surigao.
and you bet, the island hopping experience was fun. always fun. no tragedies happened so far. God is good.
@jasper.. having it from you, t'was surely a flattering remarks.
@mr. schiz.. Surigao from Butuan is only 2.5hours away. And on the ride, some magnificent vistas offered by Lake Mainit will give you a nice trip.
and as ive said a while ago, Surigao is miles away from the milf attacked lanao. miles miles away that we are preserving peace.
the media should stop using the term Mindanao when referring to a particular place cause obviously other cities in the island will be dragged even if some of it restored peace.
@paui.. haha sayang naman. you should have maximized your trip to siargao. those 3 islands in siargao are lovable. the sands are magnificent.
glad you finally made it there. when was that? di man lang kita na-meet. hehe. our office is near the pier area.
@dong.. aabangan ka ng cave. haha. at pagbutihin ang surfing lessons para ma-maximize ang waves ng siargao. still i suggest you visit siargao in time of the international surfing cup this october or november. lots of action you will see there.
@stanley.. i was afraid i will be possessed by 'whosoever' king who sat there. anyways, i think he is in great conflict with the bats residing in his haven. the bats seem to filth his throne. hehe
@vanessa.. wow! award... thank you so much for that. getting it now from your site.
nice place! parang ang sarap maglangoy maghapon.
ur last pic...u were not turning into a wolf..malakas ang sikat ng araw when u took the picture, the camera was almost against the light as well..but it turned out well :-)
mao nay cave! pero sayang lang ba nga naa graffiti. it should be cleaned so that tourists will appreciate it more.
@gibo.. good observation. it was actually what had happened when i took the picture. the sun's ray reflected onto my shirt that when i aim the camera with flash on, that was the result.
Surigao is so beautiful. I hope we could someday reach that place. The photographs were so inviting.
Btw, thanks for the links. Got you linked you too.
hehe..thanks for the info...=)
